Bilbray, Issa, Hunter vote to LET WOMEN DIE!

Any woman voting in San Diego's 52nd Congressional District has a serious decision to make! The Republican House has voted to reclassify rape, and give hospitals the choice not to perform emergency abortions.

See more from HR Reality Check
The GOP-led House of Representatives, with the blessings and encouragement of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and extremist religious groups such as the Family Research Council, passed a bill in a vote of 251 to 172 that would, among other things, allow doctors and hospitals to "exercise their conscience" by letting pregnant women facing emergency medical conditions die.
Yes. Die.
This is what the Republicans called the "Protect Life Act."  And no, I am not kidding.
US Congressman, Brian Bilbray, (R-52n Dist.) has a particularly bad Tea-Party Voting record against womenHe voted repeatedly to disqualify Planned Parenthood for all federal  funds, even for breast cancer screenings and preventative health services, as well as birth control and abortion.  He even voted for a bill (H.R.358) dubbed by opponents as the “Let Women Die Act” that would have allowed hospitals to refuse emergency abortions for women whose lives were in immediate danger.

His opponent in the newly redrawn district, Scott Petters, has an exemplary record on Women's Issues.
“Over the last two years, the extremists in Congress, including Brian Bilbray, have conducted an all-out assault on women’s healthcare and reproductive choice, including access to contraception.” Peters said.
“My wife and I both are extremely committed to Planned Parenthood,” said Peters, whose wife served on the local Planned Parenthood board of directors for years.  “I will always stand firmly in defense of the rights of all women to have access to affordable birth control and reproductive healthcare and will oppose any efforts to roll back these rights.”

From Voice of San Diego Posted: Friday, September 28, 2012 3:56 pm | Updated: 4:37 pm, Fri Sep 28, 2012.

On Thursday, we received a copy of an email Unified Port of San Diego board Commissioner Scott Peters said he received from U-T San Diego CEO John Lynch.

In it, Lynch threatened to use the newspaper to lead a campaign to disband the port.

But just what the email Lynch sent to Peters says has taken another turn.
Lynch claims it did not have a threat.

Busy in Retirement

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.

I enjoy giving this example of what my wife and I do. The other day, Kate and I went into town and visited a shop. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket.

We went up to him and I said, 'Come on, man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?' He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him an "asshole." He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn-out tires. So Kate called him a "shithead." He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first.
This went on for about 20 minutes.  The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Just then our bus arrived, and we got on it and went home.

We always look for cars with "ROMNEY/RYAN 2012" stickers.

We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's important at our age.

Rmoney Phoreal

Republished without permission from DailyKos.com

America owes thanks to a courageous act, probably involving civil disobedience, done, probably by someone on the catering staff, during a high roller fund raiser for Mitt Romney at the home of a Florida gazillionaire, Mark Leder, last May. Because of this brave act, all Americans at last have what only millionaires could afford before: an honest and candid view of the real Mitt Romney. Until now, Governor Romney was Multiple Choice Mitt, here, there and everywhere on this, that and every issue. He was the candidate who either wouldn't take a position or took them all at one time or another, at least in public, at least until now.
Thanks to the disclosure of the unauthorized video recording of Romney published yesterday by Mother Jones we now have about an hour of Romney with his filthy rich friends in a "quiet room". This is the closest most of us have ever come to catching glimpses of the real Romney.
It doesn't surprise me that most of the attention lavished on the newly released video focuses on Romney's candid observation that "47%" of voters don't care for him and that he returns the sentiment in spades. But Romney talked at length on many subjects. The 2 minutes and 8 seconds that told me the most about Mitt Romney the person was his reminiscence of a business trip he took long ago. Take a look and then come out into the tall grass to see a transcript and to talk about what a horrible person this anecdote makes Romney out to be.
“95% of life is set up for you if you were born in this country. And, I remember going to ah, uh, sorry just to bore you with stories.

“When I was back in my private equity days, we went to China to buy a factory there. It employed about 20,000 people. And they were almost all young women between the ages of about 18 and 22 or 23. They were saving for potentially becoming married.

“And they work in these huge factories, they made various uh, small appliances. And uh, as we were walking through this facility, seeing them work, the number of hours they worked per day, the pitance they earned, living in dormitories with uh, with little bathrooms at the end of maybe 10, 10 room, rooms. And the rooms they have 12 girls per room.

“Three bunk beds on top of each other. You've seen, you've seen them? (Oh...yeah, yeah!) And, and, and around this factory was a fence, a huge fence with barbed wire and guard towers. And, and, we said gosh! I can't believe that you, you know, keep these girls in! They said, no, no, no. This is to keep other people from coming in.

“Because people want so badly to come work in this factory that we have to keep them out. Or they will just come in here and start working and, and try and get compensated. So we, this is to keep people out. And they said, actually Chinese New Year as the girls go home, sometimes they decide they've saved enough money and they don't come back to the factory.

“And he said, so, on the weekend after Chinese New Year there will be a line of people hundreds long, outside the factory, hoping that some girls haven't come back. And they can come to the factory. And, and so as we were experiencing this for the first time, going to see a factory like this in China some years ago.

“The Bain Partner I was with turned to me and said, you know, 95% of life is settled if you are born in America. This is uh, this is an amazing land and what we have is unique and fortunately it is so special we are sharing it with the world.

Mitt Romney looked around the World for something to buy to make his investors more wealthy. What caught his eye was a chance to make money off of gadgets manufactured by young women living in a barbed wire compound, in cramped barracks with one bathroom for 120 women. The way Romney tells the story, it's obvious that he perceived and understood the terrible exploitation of these women with perfect accuracy. He just didn't really care. He had no impulse to protect, but rather considered how he might profit from the exploitation of these women. Why does Romney tell this well practiced old story? So he can pat himself on the back for being American.

This 2:08 of the larger video of Romney portrays with horrifying clarity the complete lack of empathy for the suffering of others in the character of Mitt Romney. It isn't exactly a revelation, as Romney has long been mocked as robotic, including, brilliantly in our own Hunter's Chronicles of Mitt. Still, it is strong confirmation that human compassion and empathy toward mankind are qualities that do not abide in Mitt Romney. He might treat his friends and family and business cronies (that's really just one group, isn't it) terrific, but the rest of us can go hang in Mitt's World.

There was a second thing in the 2:08. It was the total credulousness of Romney when he swallowed, hook, line and sinker, the yarn that his Chinese minders fed him about the barbed wire being to keep people out, not in. They were, after all, trying to sell him the place. But the way Romney tells it, he totally bought it. I'll bet Romney's Chinese minders who peddled that stuff to him still laugh about it when they have drinks. There are many character traits that I value in a U.S. President in the conduct of foreign affairs. Being a credulous dupe is not among them.

H/t also to other worthy coverage of the Romney in China story by Laura Clawson and Daily Kos Labor.

Rmoney speaks truth to power in 'Bulworth' moment

In a rare and insightful moment of candor, the Republican Presidential Candidate was recorded speaking the truth about his views of Americans. The video was shot on May 17 at the Boca Raton, Fla., home of Marc Leder, a financier, who held a $50,000-a-person fund-raiser for him.

According to the Republican, Obama's voters rely upon public assistance and feel entitled to government housing, welfare, and food stamps. He called them all parasites who take no personal responsibility nor care for their own lives. The remarks smack of an elitist code of racism and class prejudice, as revealed by later recorded comments. Among other things, the governor admits pandering to independent voters in the center using the cynical emotional manipulations of politics.

In humble rebuttal to the Republicans' dismissive remarks, local Coastal Democrat, Michael Russell, offered his opinions.
"There are 1% of Americans who will vote for the Republicans no matter what. They are a group of Americans who pay almost no taxes and are dependent upon government. These ne’er-do-wells who abuse the public tax-code and don’t pay taxes, will probably support Rmoney because they believe they are victims, and believe the government has a responsibility to care for them. They think they are the elite, entitled to their unearned wealth, entitled to their war profits, entitled to corporate welfare, entitled to their privileged position. They refuse to take responsibility for their own lives and we can't help them do it."
Mr. Russell continued, "Our job as Democrats is not to worry about those aristocrats. We will never convince them they should take personal responsibility for their mistakes and care for the lives of their countrymen. Our job is to stop government from taking care of these freeloaders: cut military spending, stop bailing out the banks, close the tax loop-holes, and make them pay their fair share. This is a question about the fundamental direction of the country: Do you believe in a corporate-government-centered society that goes into debt to provide more and more benefits for the rich? Or do you believe instead in a just society where a unified people have the opportunity to pursue their dreams?”

Please share this invitation with your club members, GO Team, and friends.

This Friday, July 20, 6-7:30pm, at the San Diego Coastal HQ, we will host the fifth in a series of “Friday Seminars.”

The last four Friday Seminar topics:
What is the relationship between philosophy, policy and morality?
What are the core values of the Democrat Party?
Is the Democratic Party the solution or the problem?
How do we take back the media?

This Friday’s Seminar:
Is there a need for a New Vision for the Democratic Party?
What can we learn from the Green Party?

Listen to what Gar Alperovitz said about the “Next Great Revolution.” Towards the end he talks about the emerging need for a new vision.
